Summary:

System design and certification to ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems or QA), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems or EMS), and AS/NZS 4801:2001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems or OHSMS).

Introduction to the organisation:

Perez Civil Construction boasts a committed, hard working and precise management team situated in South Gippsland Shire of Victoria, Australia.

Continuing the supply of site management / subcontractor services to other civil contractors in the area, Perez Civil also needed to comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS/NZS 4801 in order to tender for civil projects.

Case Study:

Commencing August 2006, interviews were held to ascertain the management procedures for Perez Civil. The aim was to prepare a new and customer specific quality / safety / environmental management system with a fresh look and feel to it.

Major documentation work was completed and reviewed with management in late September. During this visit, an introductory course in the standards was held and internal audit training was completed.

In October, risk assessments for safety and environmental and safety hazards / aspects were performed and all project documentation was prepared. An internal audit was performed. From the internal audit report, each team member was assigned tasks to ensure the integrated management system was fully implemented.

In November, the certification audit was held with International Certifications Pty Ltd and certification was awarded to all three standards. The results of the audit were as follows:

Not only was Perez Civil able to achieve certification to internationally recognised quality / safety / environmental standards in a relatively short time frame, they were able to achieve it starting from scratch with a fresh and very thorough approach to meeting customer and legal requirements.
